It seems that you can’t go anywhere these days without running into a digital clock; they are on our computers, our wrists, our ovens, microwaves and even on our walls. We use them so much that, at least for me, they have become somewhat taken for granted. It wasn’t long ago that the digital wall clock was only a figment of the imagination. In fact, the electronic clock wasn’t even invented until the late 1950’s when the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania produced the first electric watch. It wasn’t until 1972 that the same company developed the first digital display watch, which retailed for more than $2,000. Even at this price, the watch still required two hands to use – one to wear the watch and the other to press a button located on the side of the watch that would activate the red LED display. Nowadays all digital watches and digital clocks display the time continuously, and it’s not uncommon for them to display the date, temperature, humidity and a host of other readings.

Most of the digital wall clocks available today offer a host of display options and come in a variety of sizes. For those that desire a larger display there are large digital wall clocks with numerals measuring more than 2 inches. These large wall clocks are great for people that have difficulty identifying small numbers or for rooms that require a large clock for logistical reasons. Large or small, most digital wall clocks contain an atomic setting, which means that they will continually synchronize with the Atomic Clock to maintain the correct time. This means that the clock will never need to be set or adjusted for daylight savings.

Perhaps the one major drawback concerning the digital wall clock is its rather technical look and feel. Most come in a combination of black and gray colors, which gives them an industrial look. Because of this most people will not want to display them in their family room or kitchen, and will instead opt for a standard (traditional) or kitchen wall clock. In my opinion, digital clocks look great when displayed outdoors near a grilling area, patio or work area. They can also look good in offices or in children’s rooms.

The advent of the digital clock has added a much needed level of convenience to our lives. These clocks serve multiple purposes apart from just telling us the time. They give us information related to the weather and they serve as stopwatches and calculators when used on our wrists. It’s uncertain how the digital clock will evolve, though it is almost guaranteed that companies and scientists are looking for new ways to make this popular device more useful for the greater good of mankind.

It seems that there is always some sort of special occasion that requires a gift, though it’s not always easy coming up with a unique idea. I admit that I’ve been guilty of buying gift cards more and more over the past few years, particularly since it gets me off the hook from having to think of something more thoughtful to purchase. The most recent gift giving opportunity came when a new family moved into the house next door to ours. This was to be their first house as a young couple, so they didn’t have much in the way of home decor. Being an aficionado of clocks and timepieces in general, I thought that a wall clock would make a great gift. After all, who doesn’t need to tell time? Wall clocks have been around for ages and will likely never go out of style, or so I thought. I ended up purchasing a large wall clock for use in their living area and they were thrilled when we brought it over for them. They have a rather large living space and large wall clocks are a great way to add a bit of excitement and interest to a room.

Wall clocks make great gifts for a variety of reasons. There are an enormous number of clocks to choose from to suit just about any personality or type of home decor, and clocks are generally inexpensive; between $20 and $30. If a fancier clock is what you desire, there are expensive options as well including digital wall clocks and even antique wall clocks. It’s worth mentioning that buying an antique wall clock is something that you should put a great deal of thought into. Before spending a large amount of money on an antique clock it’s critical that you consult an expert in the field. These experts can be found locally or online and will likely save you a great deal of potential heartache.

In general, it’s important to stay rather conservative when choosing a clock as a gift for someone, particularly if it’s someone you don’t know well. The last thing you want to do is to purchase a loud and obnoxious cuckoo clock for someone that likely won’t appreciate it. Instead, choose something that is somewhat neutral and understated, and don’t spend a great deal of money on a wall clock unless you know the person well and are confident that they will appreciate the purchase.

For many families the kitchen is the most utilized room in the house. It’s where people gather to discuss the events of the day and where individuals come together to celebrate food and life. Because you spend so much of your time in your kitchen it’s important that you have a way to keep track of the day’s events. In my experience, time really does fly when you’re having a good time or when preparing a large meal, but it’s important that you don’t lose track of it. Sure, there are oven and microwave clocks available, but these are not always easy to read and don’t exactly scream style. The best way to keep track of time in the kitchen is by purchasing a kitchen wall clock.

Kitchen wall clocks come in a variety of different designs, though most have some type of food or drink theme to fit in with the general décor of the kitchen. There are wall clocks that have images of fruit and others that have images of coffee beans, coffee mugs and the like. It’s important that you choose a wall clock that fits in with the overall look and feel of your kitchen, and fortunately there are many to choose from. A simple search for “kitchen wall clocks” on Amazon reveals dozens of kitchen design ideas, most priced between $15 and $30.

There are also a variety of clocks available for outdoor kitchens and grill areas, including a variety of digital wall clock. The best of these options comes with integrated temperature and humidity readouts. One clock in particular, the La Crosse Technology Outdoor Atomic Clock, will automatically set itself and will continually synchronize with the atomic clock via radio frequency. Although the majority of so-called outdoor clocks are advertised to be weather proof, it’s generally recommended to keep them under cover and dry. A covered patio situation would be ideal for these types of clocks.

A kitchen isn’t necessarily the easiest room in the house to add your design flair, but choosing the appropriate kitchen wall clock can provide a certain decorative element that might otherwise be missing. Because the kitchen is where people tend gather, you want this room to look and feel its best. At the same time you want to be sure you keep track of life’s daily events without missing an important appointment, the kid’s soccer practice or those cookies baking in the oven.

Clocks are one of man’s oldest inventions and were introduced to track specific intervals shorter than the natural daily interval provided by the sun and moon. The first clocks were actually sundials, which were introduced around 1700 A.D. and provided ancient societies with a reasonably accurate method for measuring time. Due to the limitations of these clocks there became a need for a more modernized version, which are the types of wall clocks we see today – well, sort of. The invention of the mechanical clock took place in the 13th century when clocks began operating through the use of a pendulum. Most of the antique wall clocks purchased and collected today are of this type.

Antique wall clocks are the ultimate in grand home decoration. If you’re interested in purchasing an antique wall clock or selling an existing antique clock it’s important that you seek the advice of an expert. There are resources available online and elsewhere where trained people can guide you in the right direction. The last thing you want to do is to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on an antique clock only to find out later that it’s worth far less than you paid. A great resource for information related to clock identification and dating of clocks is the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Their entire reason for existing is to encourage and stimulate interest in time keeping, and they even provide photos, videos and databases for use by their members. Another great resource is the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide, which is an online service that provides educational links, advice and a classified section for buying and selling a variety of antique style wall clocks.

Buying an antique clock is a great way to connect with history, but it’s important that you understand the potential risks that are involved before jumping in. There are a variety of excellent resources where you can learn about the history of clocks and where you can talk directly to other enthusiasts as well. One thing is for certain – an antique clock is a great way to keep time and will also serve as a conversation piece for years to come.

When it comes to telling time in today’s world there are a variety of different methods; watches, cell phones, computers and even your television can help to keep you current. With such a wide array of different methods to keep track of the time it’s easy to forget about one of the original methods, the wall clock. The earliest wall clocks date back to the 13th century when medieval religious institutions used them to regulate daily prayer and work schedules. While the intended use may be different for modern wall clocks, the fundamental principle is the same – to keep track of daily activities and schedules. For me, there is just something I like about using wall clocks. Perhaps it’s the feeling of connecting with history or maybe it’s the feeling that collectors get when finding a new antique wall clock. Whatever the reason, wall clocks are here to stay and should occupy a spot in every home or office.

There are many different types of wall clocks available to suit just about any need or preference. While most people probably think of the analog versions (with hour and minute hand), there are other versions available. The digital wall clock, for instance, combines modern technology with traditional function. Modern digital wall clocks not only display time, but are also capable of displaying the date, temperature, humidity and a host of other metrics. There are even models available that will project the time onto a wall or ceiling.

Perhaps the coolest function of modern wall clocks is the inclusion of automatic time settings. These types of wall clocks synchronize with the Atomic Clock though radio signal, so they never need to be set or changed. The clock will adjust itself up to 6 times daily in order to stay accurate. Do you hate changing your clocks to account for daylight savings? If so, these automatic clocks will do the job for you. The average atomic wall clock costs about $30 and runs off of just 1 AA battery.

If you’re looking for a way to keep time that doesn’t require you to wear a watch or carry around an electronic device in your pocket then consider purchasing a wall clock. A large wall clock is a great way to enhance the decor of a room and are an integral part of any home or office.
